„Ich habe viele Namen für dieses Gewürz kennengelernt, und in jedem von ihnen steckt eine eigene Geschichte über diese Pflanze. In Portugal nennt man ihn „pimenta“, weil seine spanischen Entdecker glaubten, einen wertvollen Pfeffer gefunden zu haben, in der Tschechischen Republik „neues Gewürz“, das aus der Neuen Welt stammt, in Polen ist er als englischer Pfeffer bekannt. Piment ist eigentlich wie Pfeffer, nur aromatischer und größer. Er hat Aromen von Muskatnuss, Zimt, Nelken, Senf und Pfeffer.
